Robot Unicorn Attack
It’s extremely unlikely that the creators of Robot Unicorn Attack envisioned this game to become as incredibly successful as it has.
Right from the start, this was one of those games that had ridiculously low expectations – even from the people behind it – and truthfully it was created more as a gag than anything else.
However, more than 40 million downloads later, it became one of the most popular mobile games of 2012, spawned a breakthrough and wildly successful sequel in 2013, and there’s even talk about a next generation title being released in the middle of 2015.
For a game that was supposed to be a tremendous flop, it has spawned one of the most successful mobile video gaming franchises of all time.
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Robot Unicorn Attack.
What is Robot Unicorn Attack all about, anyway?
The entire premise behind Robot Unicorn Attack is as ridiculously simple and straightforward as it gets – you gain complete and total control over a robotic unicorn (surprise, surprise) and must pilot it throughout a course as it runs ready much forever.
The whole idea behind this game is that you jump over platforms, blast through star barriers, and solve impossibly simple puzzles along the way – all while enjoying some incredibly bizarre humor (the kind of stuff that people who enjoy Adult Swim will eat up with a spoon) and upgrading your robotic unicorn as you progress.
That’s about it, in a nutshell, anyway.
It just goes to show that some of the most popular mobile video games out there today are also some of the most simple and straightforward, and that when you hit on a home run you might not know it until people get a chance to play.
The graphics for Robot Unicorn Attack are absolutely top-notch, and will look all that out of place on a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Sure, they aren’t “next generation” by any stretch of the imagination – but they aren’t supposed to be.
Remember, this is a mobile video game (for smartphones and tablets) that we are talking about.
The gameplay doesn’t get any more basic than this, but that’s definitely not a bad thing.
If you have any success whatsoever swiping your finger across your smart phone or tablet (think Temple Run style), you’ll be all right!

Available on the iOS and Android platforms (right now) there is talk about bringing future Robot Unicorn Attack games to other platforms as well – more specifically the Windows Phone platform and maybe even porting these titles over to the new PlayStation and Xbox and even on our website as a flash game.
Nothing is rock solid on that future front quite yet, but it would be exciting and interesting to see how things play out in the months to come.
At the end of the day, if you’re looking for a fun game to waste a bit of time in, the kind of game that you can start out and get right into no matter where you are, you’re going to absolutely love everything that Robot Unicorn Attack brings to the table.
Super easy to get started with, absolutely beautiful as far as mobile video games are concerned, and with a control scheme that any six-year-old could master in just a couple of minutes, this is the kind of picture-perfect mobile video game that has been sweeping the world ever since mobile video gaming really exploded a couple of years ago. If you like the old Mario arcade game you should also check the second version called Cat Mario, it is very fun and addictive.
You’d honestly have to be at least a little bit crazy not to give Robot Unicorn Attack a shot.
It’s got everything that you’re looking for with zero downside whatsoever – just don’t be surprised if you find yourself checking out the sequels just as soon as you get the chance!
